Summary:

Responsibility for development, maintenance, and analysis of a wide array of market, network and other data to support the initiatives and business plans of Akron Children’s Hospital. Assists in other activities of the strategy and business development and PR and marketing departments, as needed.

Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain knowledge base of data sources available for use in strategy, business development and marketing activities, including strategic and business planning, market research and other initiatives
  2. Evaluate and determine which sources provide the most reliable, timely and meaningful data

Technical Expertise

Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities of the Manager of Data Analytics*

Data Analytics

  • Analytic strategy and deployment: Serves as the clearinghouse for understanding, anticipating, and prioritizing information and analysis needs for the association’s research, policy, advocacy, and communications teams, senior leadership, and members. Formulates analytics strategies and solutions and engages with teams and committees and key organizational decision-makers to ensure alignment with organizational strategy.
  • Technical subject matter expert within the organization: Serves as a point of access to valuable analytics information for association members and staff. Provides expertise in data management, data collection, data analysis, data visualization, data distribution, key performance indicators, and metric creation. Promotes a data-informed organizational culture.
  • Data management: Collaborates on the organization’s data analytics and data warehousing needs with the director of information technology (IT). Collaborates with the director of IT to appropriately structure reports within association management software.
  • Quality assurance and data governance: Collaborates on analytics audits, data governance processes, testing, quality assurance, quality control, and debugging of analytical and reporting code.
  • Analytics implementation: Works with appropriate departments to create member benchmarking reports and products. Designs and maintains data programs; tracks, prioritizes, and manages analytics implementation initiatives across teams; serves as contact for analytics and reporting requests.
  • Communication and decision support: Presents and communicates data analytics results and procedures performed in a coherent and effective manner to both technical and non-technical audiences, including the development and distribution of white papers, briefs, presentations, member performance reports, infographics, maps, etc.

Healthcare Research

  • Facilitates the collection of data and obtaining secondary data for analyses.
  • Uses various data sources, including the organization’s data warehouse and other national and state databases, to synthesize and interpret trends in health care access, affordability, and quality.

Collaboration

  • Works collaboratively and effectively with members of other teams. Coordinates with the director of IT.

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience for the Manager of Data Analytics:

  • Master’s degree in health services research, public health, public policy, public administration, biostatistics/statistics, epidemiology, or related fields.
  • Seven or more years of experience in a position monitoring, managing, manipulating, and drawing insights from data, with two or more years of experience leading a team.
  • Exceptional capability in analyzing and interpreting results of individual and group research, using standard and new research methods and techniques.
  • Strong problem solving, quantitative, and analytical skills.
  • Strong project management skills to coordinate multiple activities and meet tight deadlines, while maintaining attention to detail

This position will be part of a dynamic, energetic and collaborative team that supports the organization in the use of data and information to further OHSU’s mission to strive for excellence in education, research and scholarship, clinical practice and community service. Members of the Business Intelligence and Advanced Analytics (BIAA) team work to apply knowledge and best practices to assist end users in leveraging BI Tools (Power BI, Cognos, Tableau, etc.) to analyze enterprise data for informed decision making throughout the organization. 

This position is responsible for providing BI System Engineering, Power BI Reporting / Analytic Development, and System Analysis/Support in the delivery of the Candid project.  This will include working with business partners to collect and integrate information across the clinical, research, and educational mission areas and combining that with key administrative information (HR, Payroll, Grants Accounting, etc.).

The BI System Engineering responsibilities of this position include working closely with other ITG and BIAA team members to apply advanced technical experience and knowledge to coordinate the development, maintenance and monitoring of complex and critical BI applications.  Throughout these efforts a high degree of attention will be required to ensure new applications, code and updates are tested and applied accurately, that security and access are maintained as expected, and that all components of the system perform efficiently and with minimal downtimes.

The system engineering responsibilities will be applied to performing Power BI Reporting / Analytic Development tasks by leveraging extensive experience with Microsoft analytic tools (Power BI, Visual Studio, DAX) to develop solutions and project deliverables.  These items will enable members of the organization to efficiently access and analyze integration information for decision making and planning related to critical institutional resources.  Throughout the development efforts team collaboration and joint development and knowledge sharing will be critical to the long term success of these efforts.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Healthcare Data Engineer.

Summary

NYU Langone Health’s Data Management and Architecture team is responsible for data architecture, data management, data governance solutions and big data solutions using Hadoop and AWS. The healthcare data engineer will be a key member of this team, responsible for data engineering and user support for big data solutions primarily focused on Cloudera Hadoop and AWS. The data engineer must have strong hands-on technical skills in SQL, Unix scripting, data/application interfaces (e.g. REST API), Java and Python, big data experience and some experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS). The ideal candidate is technically savvy, self-driven, collaborative, intellectually curious, a continuous learner, and thrives in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment.

Job Responsibilities

  •  Analyze data sources for data discovery, data quality and data processing
  • Design, develop and support data engineering and integration applications using various tools and frameworks as required
  • Develop, automate and optimize data pipelines using SQL, Unix and Python scripts, Sqoop, Airflow and other technologies for different types data and data sources such as relational, text/csv files, RESTful interfaces, AWS S3 buckets
