Summary of Position

The Center for Biostatistics and Epidemiology (CBE) at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM) at Temple University seeks to recruit a Research Informatics scientist/faculty at the levels of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. The new faculty member will carry a tenure-track or non-tenure-track faculty appointment in LKSOM within the Department of Biomedical Education and Data Sciences. Clinicians and non-clinicians are welcome to apply.

The CBE provides critical support for clinical, translational, and basic research at LKSOM. Our mission is to offer biostatistical and epidemiological research resources, develop clinical research programs, educate trainees in clinical research methods, and nurture collaboration across multiple disciplines. The occupant of this position will oversee Informatics activities at the CBE, including Temple’s participation as a PaTH PCORnet (National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network) site. In addition, this occupant will contribute to enhancing the Research Informatics infrastructure at LKSOM.

Qualified applicants will have M.D., and/or Ph.D. degrees, completed rigorous training, and demonstrated the ability to conduct independent, extramurally funded informatics research.

Preferred Qualifications:

Job Summary:

This individual contributor is primarily responsible for driving strategic data-informed decisions, gathering data and information on targeted variables in an established systematic fashion, preparing data for analytic efforts, and interpreting data analyses. This position executes creative data analytic approaches leading to actionable outcomes, develops, implements, and automates business and reporting solutions, and develops analytical and/or statistical models enabling informed business decisions.

The lead analytic consultant in Medicare/ACA risk adjustment will serve as an analytical resource to internal/external customers. This position functions both as a risk adjustment consultant and as a high-level data analyst, utilizing data mining tools, such as SQL or SAS, to extract, transform and analyze health care data (e.g., Clarity, CDW, Medicare) to provide data-driven insights to best address customer’s needs. This position is also responsible for communicating results and methodologies to non-technical audiences. 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Interprets data analyses by applying findings to contextual settings; and developing insights, reports, and presentations telling a compelling story to stakeholders to enable and influence decision making; and providing context related to data interpretations and/or limitations as appropriate.
  • Drives strategic data-informed decisions by consulting with clients to identify and clarify key business needs; developing outcomes and process measures; translating business requirements; determining data/information needs and data collection methods; developing analysis plans; measuring the impact of business decisions on clients, customers, and/or members; working with clients and staff to identify opportunities and methods to improve efficiencies with analysis; supporting and training end-users; and documenting processes and deliverables.

Kaiser Permanente / The Southeast Permanente Medical Group, (TSPMG) is happy to announce a remote, full-time opening for a Consultant, Business Intelligence Analytics role. This individual is responsible for leading the analytical functions specific to one of the following business functional areas: Clinical/Hospital Operations, Member Experience, and Quality. The Consultant will work with Business Owners, Project Managers, and other "Requesters" of data to translate requests into clear and actionable conclusions. This involves many responsibilities including the facilitation of tasks to understand the objectives of the business owner, retrieval of data, organization of data into information, interpretation of data and its meaning and the conclusion of business directives derived from the analytical activities. Additionally, the Consultant must manage multiple analytical requests at one time. Specific responsibilities of the Consultant include but may not be limited to: Act in a coaching / mentoring role for Analysts and/or Data Delivery Specialists. Oversee analytical and reporting services within his/ her scope of work. Serve as a data Subject Matter Expert (SME) to consult with business owners on the data itself. Support departments and interdisciplinary groups by facilitating the acquisition of data and information needed to drive Regional and operational decision making and process improvements. Actively participate as a project team member. Obtain, analyze, organize, and interpret data into actionable findings, recommendations, and conclusions. Facilitate report production or data process development required to meet business needs. Maintain a broad spectrum of knowledge regarding business processes and the underlying systems and data sources that support these processes.

The ideal candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Information Systems, Business, Statistical, Accounting, Management or related field, and also 6 years of related work experience (i.e. in a reporting and analytical environment, preferably in healthcare).

Minimum Education and/or Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with SQL data manipulation
  • 5+ years of managing analytical requests, creating analytical solutions, establishing analytical standards and metrics, and communicating insights to senior leaders, operational leaders, and other analysts
  • 5+ years using analytical tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, Python and R to produce actionable insights to answer business questions
  • Understanding of medical terminology including diagnosis codes and procedure codes
  • Experience translating front end workflows into data requirements. Ability to interpret end user needs into actionable and accurate reports.
  • Excellent in critical thinking, analytical, and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work within a team and cross functional teams
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work directly with various levels of leadership and bring high priority projects to a successful result.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
